This colossal meta/photo blog is mostly about the history of Catwoman (aka Selina Kyle). Plus some neat and groovy retro/vintage stuff!

There have been several versions of Catwoman's original story. In Year One Selina Kyle is shown as a prostitute working in East End of Gotham City.

A look at Catwoman throughout the years

Some Darwyn Cooke styling thoughts for Selina Kyle when he was drawing the comic. You really need to embiggen to see his notes. Notice on the mid right the “no f-me pumps.”

Although originally introduced as an equal opponent for Batman, Selina Kyle/Catwoman's status as hero or villain is ambiguous; Catwoman has her own moral code and has occasionally teamed up with Batman and other heroes against greater threats

History of the Catwoman

Julie Newmar, who stands at 5-foot-11 and had a perfect hourglass figure (38-23-38), was the first to play Catwoman in an onscreen adaptation of the Batman comic book series.

Selina Kyle, Catwoman's alter ego was not used in the Batman TV series.

Julie Newmar was replaced by Lee Meriwether (with Hecat) as Catwoman. Before playing the role she was best known for being Miss America of 1955 but the Batman Movie was really her first major on screen performance. After her appearance as Catwoman she had great success as an actress

Eartha Kitt took over the role of Catwoman for the third and final season of Batman. Eartha brought a more serious and ruthless Catwoman to the series.  Creepy Eartha Kitt lacked Newmar's statuesque sexiness, nethertheless the usual romance between Catwoman and Batman was missed, in part, probably due to Eartha Kitts's race. "We felt it was a very provocative idea," recalled producer Charles FitzSimons about executive producer Bill Dozier's selection of Eartha Kitt as Catwoman; "She was a cat woman before we ever cast her as Catwoman. She had a cat-like style. Her eyes were cat-like and her singing was like a meow. This came as a wonderful off-beat idea to do it with a black woman."

Eartha Kitt was at a luncheon with First Lady Johnson when she spoke out about the youth of that time. "The children of America are not rebelling for no reason", she started. "You are sending off the best of this country to get shot and maimed. No wonder the kids rebel and take pot". Her statement drove the downfall of her career.

The Tim Burton/Michelle Pfeiffer Catwoman spinoff was almost purr-fection

Is Michelle Pfeiffer Is The Greatest Catwoman Ever?

Halle Berry's version of Catwoman (aka Patience Phillips) differs from the traditional forms of Catwoman. Instead of being portrayed as Selina Kyle,  she is portrayed as a woman with super-human abilities and actually acts like a Cat.

More importantly, she is shown living in an unknown city rather than the traditional and iconic Gotham City.

The Cat is a name that world-class cat burglar and mistress of disguise Selina Kyle is known by. She’s cunning, devious, and cynical, but is in search of a fresh start in life. She targets Gotham’s wealthiest in her schemes.

Her weapons usually include infrared goggles, bladed high-heel boots, and a belt filled with lock picks. She was portrayed by Anne Hathaway

The Cat was the name used by Catwoman in her first comic book appearance. Selina Kyle is never referred to as Catwoman, instead being referred to only by her name, although she is referred to as "The Cat" in a newspaper.

This issue is all about dealing with Black Friday without hordes and violence. If you suffer with Enochlophobia (fear of crowds) or if you just don't like shopping, this blog is for you!

When the war ended and Dupont was allowed to make nylons again, In  ONE DAY 4 million pairs were sold.  In one city, 40,000 women got in line to purchase an inventory of 13,000 pairs.  Fights broke out.  Black Friday for Black Stockings!  Women were literally putting their lives on the line for leg lines, and it was national.  I've found articles reporting riots all over the country. One of the worst was when an airplane dropped coupons for a free pair over Times Square.

I have heard that the Halle Berry "Catwoman" movie was awful, although for the life of me, I don't see how that's possible.

I might have to watch it with the sound off sometime.
