The Return of the Nerds with the Federalist - San Diego Comic-Con International is a multigenre convention held yearly in San Diego, California, United States. It was founded as the "Golden State Comic Book Convention" in 1970 by a group of San Diegans.

The convention is the largest in the Americas and the fourth largest in the world after the Comiket in Japan, the Angoulême International Comics Festival in France, and the Lucca Comics and Games in Italy. In 2010, it filled the San Diego Convention Center to capacity with over 130,000 attendees.

  Exploring the Concept of Steampunk

Dieselpunk is a genre similar to that of its more well-known cousin "steampunk" that combines the aesthetics of the diesel-based technology of the interwar period through to the 1950s with retro-futuristic technology and postmodern sensibilities.

The very first living and breathing “Vampirella,” Kathy Bushman. This photo of Bushman was taken in 1969 at the World Science Fiction Convention in St. Louis where she caught the eye of Vampirella creator Forrest J. Ackerman

For a long time, Vampirella models were just about the only girls you would see at comic conventions. There have been several official Vampirella models, and the width of the strips of fabric that make up their costumes has changed with the attitudes of the times.

Explore the Seafloor With Data Collected During the Search for MH370

After more than three years and countless man-hours spent searching, the fate of Malaysian Airlines flight 370, which disappeared in 2014, remains a mystery. In their fruitless search for the plane, the Furgo crews have found shipwrecks and pieces of debris, and have collected an impressive amount of data on the terrain of the seafloor around Australia. Now some of that data is available online, thanks to the Australian government’s geosciences agency.
